It shone like an angel’s light as I tinkered with it about the daylight that had just showed up previously. What could be progressively important about it? I pondered once more. Only minutes prior, I had discovered this around my work area. It was a blessing from my mom. However, as appealing as it might have been, it appeared that the idea behind it was the wellspring of its magnificence. The day was passing by too rapidly as I was getting a charge out of the warm summer outside. Be that as it may, it was not simply one more day today, it was my birthday. Despite the fact that I in some cases don't contemplate this day, a straightforward blessing makes this day essentially not the same as some other. I have constantly favored something basic, in the case of giving or accepting a blessing, straightforward consistently does it. I realized that I will get something from my mom. Regardless of whether it wasn’t another vehicle beat with the world’s most costly edges or James Bond’s Seiko watch, I would approve of it. I don’t request a lot, I can value whatever I get. At the point when I got back home toward the evening, lying around my work area was a white box close to three crawls long and width enhanced with a light embellish of conceptual structure. I opened it cautiously and found a delightful metal keychain situated superbly among the cushioning that kept it from harm. The four corners that were marginally scratched across in a breathtaking way uncovered to be the most intelligent part that ran all through the opposite side. My fingers followed over the best etching of Edwardian-content that spelt my name. Pondering this blessing my mom had given me welcomed a warm and sincere inclination that appeared to transmit all through my whole body. The straightforward however extreme plan of this blessing had more to offer than just itself, and the way that the blessing was intended for me stood apart like a spotlight in a group, having a place with the legitimate individual. Me. Maybe my mom put her whole heart in the blessing to guarantee that the world realized it was mine. It couldn't mean anything else than that. A blessing only for me. I said thanks to her a while later. It is the idea of the blessing that matters. I never realized how a basic key chain could mean to such an extent. It was not the lovely gleam, the delicate however strong edges or the enchanting way it considered my name that caused it to appear to be engaging alone, yet rather that with the given importance, it appeared to supplement each other like the brilliant stars against the dull sky. The physical highlights of the blessing couldn't exclusively coordinate the idea of the blessing itself, however could just acclaim it. The gleaming metal keychain had fulfilled my meaning of a basic yet significant blessing.

Wish War Veterans a Happy Veterans Day

The eleventh day of November is a special day. In the United States, the day is called Veterans Day. In some other parts of the world, it is called Remembrance Day, a day to honor military folk, who served during war. This day draws the nations attention to the sacrifices made by its war heroes. Americans express their collective pride for the armed forces. Mark TwainIn the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.Arthur Koestler The most persistent sound, which reverberates through mens history is the beating of war drums.Dan LipinskiOn this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free.John DoolittleAmericas veterans have served their country with the belief that democracy and freedom are ideals to be upheld around the world. Veterans Day Background On November 11, 1918, the First World War officially ended. A year later, American President Woodrow Wilson formerly instituted Armistice Day to honor the brave hearts, who were martyred during the war. However, Second World War veteran Raymond Weeks from Birmingham, Alabama had a different vision. In 1945, Weeks announced that 11 November should honor all war veterans. Hence two years later, the first Veterans Day was observed, paying tribute to all those who served the military during war. Veterans Day is now a federal holiday across America. Veterans Day Celebrations in America On this day, military veterans are awarded medals and honors for their selfless hard work. At 11 a.m., the ceremony begins with the official wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns, followed by a colorful parade by various veterans service organizations, and speeches made by dignitaries. Elsewhere, states conduct their own parades, honoring brave military personnel, who served during wartime and peacetime. Gary HartI think there is one higher office than president and I would call that patriot.Douglas MacArthurIn my dreams I hear again the crash of guns, the rattle of musketry, the strange, mournful mutter of the battlefield.Michel de MontaigneValor is stability, not of legs and arms, but of courage and the soul.Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit The more we sweat in peace the less we bleed in war. Celebrating Courage Under Fire Writer George Orwell made a moving comment on civilians attitude to the military when he said, People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. Author Mark Twain also brought out the tragedy of being in a war. Twain wrote, Anyone who has ever looked into the glazed eyes of a soldier dying on the battlefield will think hard before starting a war.Remember these famous Veterans Day quotes when you offer your opinion during a conversation on war, peace, and the military. War is certainly not a game for the men and women who have to show courage under fire. Remember Your War Heroes If you love poetry, spare a moment to read Tommy, a classic poem by Rudyard Kipling. The poem talks about the publics hypocritical attitude to the common soldier, typified by Tommy Atkins. Towards the end of the poem, Kipling writes, Its Tommy this, and Tommy that,And chuck him out the brute,But its Savior of his Country,When the guns begin to shoot. Kipling may have been describing military life in Britain, but the poem has universal significance. Around the world, we fail to give our military heroes their due. As you read some Veterans Day quotations from poems, you will gain insight into the lives and motivations of those serving in the military. Byron PulsiferTo be free and to have a choice and a voice means that veterans have been quieted through death.Henry Ward BeecherAre they dead that yet speak louder than we can speak, and a more universal language? Are they dead that yet act? Are they dead that yet move upon society and inspire the people with nobler motives and more heroic patriotism?Jeff MillerThe willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.

“Write About the Ways Auden Tells the Story in the Poetic Piece ‘Miss Gee’” Free Essays

â€Å"Write about the ways Auden tells the story in the poetic piece ‘Miss Gee’? † Through the ballad of ‘Miss Gee’ Auden tells the story of the character Miss Edith Gee this is achieved in a variety of ways. The poetic piece is a ballad intended to be read to the tune of ‘St James’ Infirmary’. Auden has created a regular pattern of quatrains as well as a regular rhythm which progresses the general flow of the poem and creates the atmosphere of a story for the reader. We will write a custom essay sample on â€Å"Write About the Ways Auden Tells the Story in the Poetic Piece ‘Miss Gee’† or any similar topic only for you Order Now The initial exposition is extremely sympathetic towards Miss Gee. â€Å"Now let me tell you a little story about Miss Edith Gee† is a cruel way to open the narrative as Auden instantly belittles her character and makes her seem insignificant, whereas she is actually the main, if not only character we meet in detail. This technique is effectives the reader then feels that she is insignificant, and although it is she who lends her name to the poem, is an outcast and a quiet individual. She is continually referred to as small, further lowering the impressions of the character to the reader. Auden establishes the setting of the poem in the introductory stanza, as would be done in a story â€Å"She lived in Clevedon Terrace/ At Number 83†. This is an ordinary address and place for the poem to be set it, this in turn establishes the normality and average attributes of Miss Gee showing her character as one of no complexity. The further repetition of ‘Clevedon Terrace’ in the poem is a constant reminder from Auden to the reader to always bring them back to the fact that the character Miss Gee is intended to be average and ordinary just like any other individual. Miss Gee’s appearance is made apparent by Auden in the third stanza â€Å"She’d a velvet hat with trimmings,/And a dark grey serge costume;† â€Å"purple†¦ green† this description of Miss Gee’s clothing is very ironic as lots of colours are present but on a colourless character. Auden may have intended this imagery to be seen as symbolism of Miss Gee’s persona how she tries to mask her simplicity in colours but is always unable to mask her unfeminine personality and the fact that she is insecure in her own skin. The is no connection between Auden and herself and the poem has a very impersonal tone to it Auden is very mocking of Miss Gee when describing her clothing as a â€Å"costume† which creates the impression that she almost trying to dress up as somebody else and is seen to some as somewhat of a joke. Auden uses a regular pattern of rhyme throughout the poetic piece How to cite â€Å"Write About the Ways Auden Tells the Story in the Poetic Piece ‘Miss Gee’†, Papers

Mama O free essay sample

â€Å"The first time I saw her, she was walkin’ down the hall, singin’ and carryin’ a bedpan full of pee. I knew then she was the girl I wanted to marry, and so I did.† Dr. Bill always said this of Mama O, my Mississippi grandmother. Back then, she was working as a nurse in Birmingham, Alabama. At eighty-nine, she is still a nurse, but instead of using needles and scalpels as her tools, Mama O nurses people with her Southern home-style cooking, or what she likes to call â€Å"comfort food.† Her clear blue eyes, white curls, and permanently etched smile greet anyone who happens to pass through the door. Mama O welcomes everyone, whether a garbage collector or federal judge, into her home and her heart. One time, two Mormons passed through Forest, Mississippi to do missionary work. Everyone in town was wary of their presence. Their silent manners and solemn clothing struck the conservative Southerners as strange to say the least. We will write a custom essay sample on Mama O or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page One of them became ill, and Mama O took both into her home without hesitation. When the neighbors questioned her, she simply replied, â€Å"I didn’t see two Mormons. I saw two boys who needed their mama.† Mama O taught me that it does not matter where people come from or what they believe in; everyone deserves kindness and loving all the same. Although Mama O rarely leaves her house, the world finds its way to her. A patron of literature, she reads three newspapers, magazines, and books daily. Her backyard is an animal shelter: cats and dogs are served cornbread and fried chicken. Pictures checker her walls, showing her friends of all ages across the world from Australia to England. Mama O considers everyone her own. She brings water to the mailman and bakes pies for the repairman. When a cross-country bicyclist sought refuge in Forest, people directed him to Mama O’s house; I heard he made it to Washington, D.C. with ten more pounds on his bones. Mama O is the epitome of Southern hospitality; no one leaves without feeling like a stuffed turkey. â€Å"It’s just what I do,’ she says. Making others happy is as natural to her as cooking. Living through the Great Depression and World War II, Mama O bore witness to loss and poverty. She embraces hardships with humility and appreciation. I marvel at her generous spirit and willingness to serve others. I tell myself that like Mama O, I will â€Å"wake up every morning expecting something good to happen.† At the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, my mind and textbooks are my tools, and I approach every challenge with a positive mindset. I take advantage of the opportunities I am given, and I do not hesitate to help out someone in need. I am proud to claim my Mississippi grandmother who taught me to go through life with a smile and a song on my face, even if I ever find myself â€Å"carrying a bedpan full of pee.†
